I was very excited when I found out and very proud to share the news that the food co-op I am involved with – The True Food Community Co-op, is a finalist in the 2011 BBC Food and Farming Awards.
True Food is a not-for-profit food co-op that supplies good food to the communities of Greater Reading, Berkshire. We do this through our community owned and run supermarket and neighbourhood markets. We pride ourselves on providing access to healthy organic foods at affordable prices and we specialise in local food, sourcing veg, fruit and meat locally. But perhaps the most interesting thing about us is that you can join, get involved, have your say.
Being a member owned co-op means that True Food is owned and run by us. We take a stake, we get involved as volunteers and we take pride in what we do. We have a very clear ethos and very clear direction. Does this make us the best in the ‘Best Retail Initiative Category’? You can have a look for yourself here;
