I love this time of year, the feeling of having enjoyed a good summer, the harvest coming in and most importantly the start of ‘Porridge Season’!
This year I am also celebrating ‘Organic September‘ the Soil Association campaign to celebrate the best of organic produce. For September the Soil Association is encouraging you to make a ‘Small Change‘, to swap just one thing you buy to an organic product. From milk to flour to shampoo people across the country have been pledging lots of different small changes. Mine small change pledge has been to feed my cat organic pet food.
Of course being the Porridge Lady I want your change to be swapping your oats to organic. It’s great to see several brands of organic oats on the market, now being widely stocked. So next time you go shopping think about making a ‘small change’ to buying organic oats and give my recipe a try;
- 1 1/2 cups organic oats
- 2 cups of organic apple juice
- 1 cup of water
- 2 generous handfuls of well washed wild or organic blackberries.
- Organic cinnamon to garnish
Place the oats, water and apple juice into a saucepan and stir thoroughly.
Then place the saucepan over a high heat and stirring constantly, allow the oats to come to the boil.
Reduce the heat to a simmer and continuing to stir, cook the oats for 3-4 mins or until you have a nice thick Porridge consistency.
Remove the pan from the heat and set aside for 1 min.
Then pour the Porridge into two bowls.
Divide the blackberries between the two servings, making sure both have a generous handful of the berries.
Finally garnish with cinnamon and serve hot to enjoy the best of the season and Organic September.
